Well, not toxic, exactly... maybe just a little bit rank. But in a nice way. With a garnish.

Brokeback Mountain

Imp and I went to see Brokeback Mountain tonight.

Me: 7.5/10 The scenery was great.
Imp: 7/10 "It wasn't exactly fast-moving!"

We went because we hoped that it would be groundbreaking as regards gay interest films; especially as it was Hollywood, so in that way I suppose it was. However, it wasn't the most exciting film ever... and certainly not explicit in British terms. I suppose those poor Americans need protecting from us naughty shirt/skirt-lifters.

The scenery was fantastic and if, like me, you're a mountain fan then you will be planning your next expedition during the drawn-out panoramic shots.

We had been told that we would probably both end up in tears at some point.
So we both spent the entire film wondering when the emotional bit would happen. When the emotional bit did happen we both shrugged, dusted ourselves off and waited for a sadder bit... which never came.

Without giving too much away, we both know people who live daily in these circumstances or have lived it ourselves... and so to us queers, a bit of heartache is par for the course.

If you want gay interest, dust off your copies of Queer As Folk. If you want deviancy, watch Withnail And I. If you want scenery, tune into UK Gold and grab a few episodes of All Creatures Great and Small.

Ah well.

Hey, I've just got back from watching that too!

I agree, not exactly groundbreaking but good all the same. This was the second time I've watched it - the first was Monday night but I only got emotional (some tear fluid escaped from my right eye) tonight. Maybe I got into it more the second time around?

Some shocks though: The sudden, and scary, appearance of a moustache on georgeous, lovely Jakey!

Siamese Twins judging from the poster?

Queer as Folk is brilliant. As is Withnail and I.

I'm really not very clued up on films at all. I'd seen this mentioned in "Now" magazine, but being a lazy reader, didn't bother to read the article. Jake and Heath getting it on eh? As far as "gay" goes, how did it compare to the topless beach volleyball in Top Gun?

Yeah. Moustaches are a crime. Someone should tell the Yanks.

s.i.d - it's a 'gay' cowboy film.. or that's how it was sold. It's actually following 2 blokes who met while working on Brokeback Mountain protecting sheep. They begin a forbidden relationship and fight against it... get married, have kids... blah blah.

It's as much a film about addiction as it is forbidden love.

Good, just not as 'happening' as I thought it would be. Worth seeing though.

Topless beach volleyball.. now that's a thing.....

    Aaah, Withnail and I.

Funnily enough, there are no women in the film (apart from the mad farmers wife bint).

Some people speculate that Withnail is gay.
